Arif picks his team for Socceroos v Oman

He's been to Germany, so he knows what is required!

Love the gear, anyone got a better photo of an Aussie fan's matchday dress.

Arif Speaks

My starting line/formation up for the first Asian Cup match against Oman:

GK - Mark Schwarzer

Defence - Michael Thwaites (left), Lucas Neill (centre), Brett Emerton (right)

Midfielders - Vince Grella & Jason Culina (holding mid-fielders - screen the defence); Marco Bresciano (left), Tim Cahill (centre), Mile Sterjovski (right)

Forwards - Harry Kewell (just behind Viduka); Mark Viduka (striker)

If everyone’s fit, this is probably the best team and formation against Oman.

It may not be the best formation against say Japan or S Korea - I think we'd need 4 at the back for the tougher teams, and that’s when the genuine wing backs would be useful... - but definitely the best formation against the weaker teams.

What would you go with?

Is Arif right? Let him know what you think.

Arif, that is rubbish! - your 3-5-1-1 formation may work well for top grade Euro clubs, but it constrict our natural game and cost us the Asian Cup. You need three forwards, and Kewell should be on a wing, jesus! Our natural game is physical, fast and aggressive, so you don't want to pack the midfield too much.
