Iran hope to topple Aussies

Yes our old mates Iran are back.

After a disappointing World Cup Iran are hoping for Asian Cup success. Me, I'm hoping Australia meet them on the way to the final.

Would be a great match-up after 1997, that World Cup qualifier.

Who was that guy who ran on the pitch? Why didn't Venables close out the game, don't go there again, we're over that aren't we?

Midfielder Andranik Teymourian is hoping a new-look Iran can wash away the disappointment of the World Cup with a successful Asian Cup campaign.
Having qualified comfortably for last summer's tournament in Germany and boasting Bundesliga regulars such as Ali Karami, Vahid Hashemian and Mehdi Madhavikia, as well as legend Ali Daei, the feeling was that Iran had a good chance of qualifying from a relatively weak group containing Portugal,Mexico and newcomers Angola.

Will Iran win the Asian Cup?

Iranians get AFC 2007 Asian Cup preparation wrong!

Iran to play Mexico City in Mexico City on June 2nd.

Hmmmn doesn't sound like the best preparation for the AFC 2007 Asian Cup to me, but who would want to go and play a friendly in Iran.

In the current political climate its probably hard for Iran to attract teams outside of official AFC qualification games.

Either that, or the Iranian Football Federation have misjudged their preparation.
